  • John King - In 1880, John King was crushed to death by an elephant named Chief, who later killed two more people before being executed and displayed, with his body eventually served as a meal at the Palace Hoel in Cincinnati.
  • Unknown Boy - A 14-16-year-old boy was discovered dead in a railroad boxcar with his identity unknown, prompting the King's Daughters to pay for his burial and the Charlotte Observer to issue an obituary seeking clues about him.
  • Foy Cooper - In 1959, Foy Cooper was brutally beaten to death while visiting her mother's grave, with her body found in a mausoleum. A suspect was arrested, sentenced to death, but ultimately released in 1966.
  • Charlie Houck -    Charlie Houck, a 65-year-old lion trainer died on Jan. 9, 1930, from shock after a lion attacked and mangled his arm, which led to its amputation. 
  • Alton Freeman - In 1926, Alton Freeman was fatally attacked by his wife, Nellie Ellis Green Freeman, who slit his throat with a razor; she was found not guilty by reason of temporary insanity, and was known to the press as "Razor Girl." 
  • Preutt L. Black - Preutt Black, a firefighter died in 1934 after falling and fracturing his skull when he missed sliding down the pole at Fire Station No. 4. He is believed to be the spirit haunting the still standing pre World War II fire house.
